IAStudios
Hello! We are IASTUDIOS, a small community of blacksmiths and metalworkers. Using all of our individual skills and strengths to come together and as a result we complete a diverse array of work.
We offer experience day courses in blacksmithing and welding, we conduct historical restoration work for Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings, we make bespoke commission pieces, we make tools, we have market stalls, we demonstrate and sell at festivals, heck one of us even runs the educational blacksmithing Youtube channel "Trust Me Ima Blacksmith".
The IASTUDIOS team really has something to offer for everyone when it comes to metalwork whether it's getting hands on with it yourself, purchasing hand-made British ironwork or learning about the craft online.

After attending our damascus knife making course you will leave with exactly that. A sharp, beautiful and lasting Damascus knife with a fantastic pattern welded and etched blade. As well as taking home the knife you made by your hands you will also leave understanding the process you used and firsthand knowledge of the craftsmanship involved in knifemaking and blacksmithing as a whole.
The course will begin with the production of the damascus steel, it is this process of layering and manipulating different materials that will give the knife the pattern. with the billet made and the pattern manipulated we will then show you how to hand forge, grind and heat treat your knife. Before you fit your handle the knife will get a relaxing bath in some acid, this is the magic step where the pattern of the damascus is revealed, and the knife is transformed.
One-Day Knife Making Course
Join us for a full day in the forge and create your very own chef knife. A practical tool that can last a lifetime with proper care. This course is perfect for beginners and offers a hands-on introduction to blacksmithing and knife making.
Throughout the day, you’ll be guided by one of our experienced blacksmiths as you learn to forge a blade from raw steel using both traditional hand tools and modern equipment like a hydraulic press and power hammer. You’ll also take part in classic smith-and-striker work, teaming up with another participant to shape hot steel with a sledgehammer.
Once your blade is forged, you’ll move on to heat treatment to harden the steel, then use grinders to refine its shape and prepare it for sharpening. Finally, you’ll fit and finish your own custom wooden handle, completing a knife that’s truly your own.
The course includes all materials, high-quality blade steel and hardwood for the handle as well as full use of tools, safety equipment, and one-on-one instruction throughout the day. You'll leave with a finished chef knife and a basic understanding of blacksmithing and blade-making techniques.
This is a 7 hour, one-day course suitable for all skill levels. Spaces are limited to keep class sizes small and ensure plenty of personal guidance.
